Month of Thanks {Day One}

So, I am going to attempt to do this AGAIN :) I almost made it through the entire month of November last year but then I got busy with Cade's birthday and Thanksgiving and promised myself that I would catch up....not. So this year I'm going to try my hardest to blog once a day about what I am thankful for!

November 1st:

Today, I am thankful for modern medicine and smart doctors! Cade started getting his usual runny nose and wheezy lungs on Thursday of last week. Poor kid. Every time the weather changes from warm to cold or if a storm front moves through, he gets sick. When you add a tailgate in cold, windy air, a hayride, and being around more hay on Sunday at church, you get a VERY sick little boy!

Poor Cade slept through the ENTIRE Fall Fest at church on Sunday!

We had started his inhalers and meds to try to get him breathing better but I decided to run him to the doctor since Daddy had an appointment with his doctor just down the street. What is usually a 45 minute appointment turned in to a SIX hour ordeal. His pulse ox was low so they gave him two breathing treatments. At noon, it was still low after that but they let us go if we promised to come back by 2. By 12:30, he was breathing heavy, make that yucky stridor sound and feeling really bad. I dropped Sadie with my sister, arranged for my parents to pick up Laney and took him straight back to the doctor.

Bored at the Dr's office. He was using his nebulizer cords to "rescue" Batman and Little Red Riding Hood! :)

At this point, he wasn't any better. We tried yet another breathing treatment. Still sounded bad and had a low pulse ox. Dr. L then gave me a choice. We could either go to the hospital right then or hang out for another two hours at the clinic for monitoring and another treatment at 4. Long story short, Dr. L decided around 5:15 to put him in the hospital. Dr. L said a prayer with Cade before we left. SO thankful for him! We left there, headed to get Daddy, grabbed some dinner and went to the hospital for the 3rd time in 3 years. Poor Bubby!

He kept saying "My so sick, Momma!"

We absolutely LOVE the nurses, therapists and staff at the hospital we go to. Well for the most part...there's this one nurse..we won't go there. This is a "being thankful post" so I'm not gonna gripe :) While it's not the most popular or newest hospital in the county, it is the hospital that our Dr has "rights" in and can access our children's paperwork, etc. Anyways, very sweet people who always treat my son with love and great care!

Alli, Emry and Sadie came to visit

Cade spent two nights at the hospital and received lots of breathing treatments, steroids, and antibiotics. He sounded better and the medicines made him appear better because they made him SUPER hyper but he was still a sick little boy. Especially at night, when he would fall asleep. His pulse ox would drop down in to the 80's and they would have to turn his oxygen back up to help him breathe and not work so hard.

The girls brought him all of the important things; Mickey, a Bible, cars and Batman!

Finally, on Halloween night, Dr. L came by and decided that he could go home because he had been off of oxygen most of the day. He was still dropping his pulse ox when he slept but it wasn't as low as the night before and if we propped him up in Daddy's arm to sleep, his stats would come up. Dr. L gave us the choice and Brandon decided to go home. We have a follow up with Dr L on Tuesday and we will discuss our next plan of action which will more than likely include a referral to a pulmonologist. So we packed up, took Laney to Aunt Holly's to meet up with Sadie and the rest of the family. We took pictures of the kids and sent them off to a Trunk or Treat at a local church and took Cade to get his new meds and then took him home.

Finally HOME with his pumpkin :)

He woke up several times during the night and vomited and also vomited several times today but I think (HOPEFULLY) that he is getting better. I'm not really sure what or why he is doing this but I called the nurse and she said it could be pneumonia (even though his x-rays were clear), a stomach bug or just mucous making his stomach upset. I'm hoping for mucous because that means all of the crud in his lungs are breaking up and the meds are working! Ha! He still sounds sick at times and if he gets up and plays around at all, he will start coughing and become short of breath. At times, he acts pretty lethargic and wanted to be held all day (I'm not complaining! I love snuggles!) but after he gets a breathing treatment, he perks right up!

Yay for home!

All of this to say, I'm so thankful for modern medicine! I'm thankful for our awesome Christian doctor and great nurses! I'm also thankful for God giving the brains and smarts to all of these nurses, doctors, specialists, and people who created all of these brilliant things to help my precious love to get better!
